Field Editions is pleased to present an opportunity to acquire a unique Paul Morrison print. All proceeds from sale of this edition go to Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool, in support of the next generation of photography talent.
Sheffield-based artist Paul Morrison was born in Liverpool in 1966. Graduating from Goldsmiths College, London in 1998, Morrison is best known for his large monochromatic botanical landscapes which have taken various forms, including paintings, prints and sculptural works.
As part of the Cultural Programme of the International Festival for Business, 2014, Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool, commissioned Morrison to transform the gallery’s façade with a mural as part of Liverpool Biennial’s Wall Work commissioning series, which aims to create a new visual dialogue between the gallery and its locale by collaborating with artists who work outside the field of photography and lens-based practice. Morrison’s Open Eye Gallery mural: Urformen was a ‘cognitive landscape’ created from a selection of disparate found elements in his extensive archive.
Pinks, 2016 is a limited edition artwork specially created for Field Editions from a modified found photograph in Morrison’s extensive archive. It has been manipulated with software and is presented as a halftone image constructed from tiny black dots. The print references cognitive colour which occurs in the mind’s eye by association, and bears all the hallmarks of his instantly recognisable and graphically monochrome visual language – often boldly rendered and strikingly magnified.
Morrison has exhibited at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles and has had solo exhibitions at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art; Bloomberg Space, London; PS, Amsterdam; Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin; Aspen Art Museum and UCLA’s Hammer Museum of Art, among many others.
Selected group exhibitions include The Jerwood Painting Prize, London; Philadelphia’s Moore College Gallery; The Flag Art Foundation and Albright Knox Art Gallery, New York; as well as shows held at The Städel Museum, Frankfurt; Tate Britain and The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Permanent Collections holding works by Morrison include British Council Collection, London; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, England; Fogg Art Museum, Harvard, Cambridge, MA; Government Art Collection, London; Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, CO; Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY and The V&A Museum, London.
Please note: as is traditional in limited edition publishing, prices will rise as an edition starts to sell out.
